You know, this might actually work...

The Packers have met with both Charles Woodson and Lavar (not to be confused with Jill) Arrington. Both of these players are certainly the 2 biggest names still left in the FA market and if TT is going to make a "splash" with a signing, this is his last opportunity.

If both of these players sign on with the Packers, one thing is for sure, the defense would be much improved. Woodson can easily cover any #2 WR out there and that would leave Carroll as the nickel back. I like Carroll and feel that he made huge strides last season and can cover most #3 WR in the league. Being at the nickel slot and learning from Woodson would only help Carroll become a better CB. Arrington, while having a reputation as a freelancer, would be an immense upgrade to our LB corps. Add drafting AJ Hawk in the first round and the Packers go from having one of the worst to one of the best LB corps in the NFL. So there is definate plus to signing these guys (not to mention themanthemyththelegend Favre might decide before 2011 if he wants to come back if these guys sign).

However, there is a reason these guys are still around, they want a butt-load of money and they have injury histories. However, there is one thing, actually 2 things that work out in the Packers favor and that is the same guys represent both Woodson and Arrington, Carl and Kevin Poston. These are the same boneheads that forgot to activate a clause in Arrington's contract that cost him $6.5M, and Lavar stayed with them! So as cutthroat as these brothers are, they don't seem to be the brightest guys out there. Maybe TT can take advantage of these guys. Pipe dream perhaps, but given that the well is running dry in FA land, the Poston's may not have much of a choice.

EDIT: A commenter, Jeramey, correctly pointed out that I had originally referred to Charles Woodson as Rod Woodson. Thanks for the catch, the change was made and thus, further proof that I'm an idiot.

That should be Charles Woodson. Rod, of course, was one of the best safeties in the 90's.

Those would be huge upgrades. I think we need to address the offensive line though, that's the force that makes the offense work.

Thanks for the catch on the name Jeramey.

I would also like to see the interior of the OL upgraded, but there are no real good players left in FA in that area. Get what you can at this point and both of those guys would make the defense a legit top 10.
